    A complex, not one camp

Maly Trostenets was connected with the Blagovshchina forest and Shashkovka site and combined forced labor, shootings, gas vans, deportation trains and evidence destruction.

    Victims from Minsk

Belarusian Jews and prisoners from the Minsk Ghetto were among the victims, along with deportees from Germany, Austria, the Protectorate and elsewhere.

    Western deportations

Some transports arriving in Minsk were directed onward toward Trostenets. Many deportees were murdered shortly after arrival.

    Killing methods

Victims were shot at nearby sites or murdered in gas vans, linking railway deportation with the Holocaust by bullets.

    Aktion 1005

In 1943 prisoners were forced to exhume and burn bodies. Remaining prisoners were also murdered as German forces retreated in 1944.

    Why totals vary

Records were destroyed and researchers use different geographic definitions, so a cautious overview avoids one exact total.
